The British government, through its High Commission in Ghana, has welcomed the enskinment of a new Ya Na for the Dagbon state in the Northern Region after close to two decades of chieftaincy conflicts.
The coronation ceremony of Ya Na Abubakari Mahama II as Overlord of Dagbon was held on Friday, 25 January 2019 following the necessary burial ceremonies for his two late predecessors.
In a Facebook post, the UK High Commission in Ghana said: “Today, we were pleased to represent the UK at the investiture of His Royal Highness Ya Na Abukari II.
“We wish him and the people of Dagbon peace and prosperity for many years to come”.
Following the killing of the late Ya Na Yakubu Andani II in 2002, the John Agyekum Kufuor government set up the Committee of Eminent Chiefs to help find a solution to the crisis.
The Committee, in November 2018, presented a final peace roadmap to President Nana Akufo-Addo, which led to the successful performance of the funerals of the two late Ya Nas, which, in turn, paved the way for the installation of a new Overlord.
